God is in Control

Today reconfirmed that when you think you have a plan and everything all figured out, God takes over and changes your life according to HIS plan which doesn't necessarily match your plan. Sometimes it is difficult to remember that God has a plan when we want something so badly, but looking back it always works out for the best.

This morning I went to tell my principal at the school I've worked at for the past 5 years that I have decided to be a full-time stay-at-home mom. I have known all my life that this was my ultimate goal  when children came around. I am lucky enough to be married to a terrific man who has the same views on this subject as I do. Until recently we weren't sure if this was a possibility. We decided we were ready to try to have kids about 2 years ago. Getting pregnant was difficult for us and I struggled with why I wasn't getting pregnant while so many people around me were getting pregnant so easily. Looking back now at what has changed over the past 2 years has reminded me of how perfect the timing of Delainey was. David started a new job a  year and a half ago that will allow me to stay home financially. If Delainey came any earlier, it would not have been possible. Also, my principal was going to move me to 8th grade math this year which I would have been so unhappy with. The timing of this decision could not have more perfect. I cannot wait to be able to watch my little girl grow everyday. I am definitely going to miss being in the classroom and making an impact on my student's lives, but feel that being with my own child is more important at this time. I'm sure I will continue to volunteer in the schools or tutor students on the side just cause I love it so much. So a new chapter in my life has begun. From career woman to Mom!

*In the moment we may not understand why things happen the way they do, but remember God already knows exactly what is going to happen in your lives and has the best timing of all!*

Here's a pic of D mesmerized by her play mat

She is about over the pacifier. I think she is more interested in eating the lamb or her hand. I am pretty sure she is going to be a thumb sucker once she figures it out!

2 Month Update

Height: 24 1/2 inches - 97%
Weight:  11 lb 14 oz - 75 %
Head Circumference: 15.6 inches - 75%
Vision: You can now see clearly 24 inches in front of you. You can follow people and objects well.
Movement: You are much more active with those hands & legs. You can hold onto objects when mommy puts them in your hand and your legs are constantly kicking. During diaper changes you stretch out as much as you can with your arms above your head and your toes pointed.
Eating Habits/New Foods: You are still eating every 3 hours during the day. Every 4-6 hours at night. Sometimes if it is a hot day or you sweated a lot we feed you every 2 hours so you don't get dehydrated. You tried pedialyte for the first time this month and you liked the strawberry flavor. You take a bottle like a champ now. We are still doing 3 ounces, but we  are pretty close to moving to 4 ounces per feeding.
Sleeping Patterns: You nap for about an hour in between almost every feeding. At night you fall asleep around 11-12 and sleep until 5 or 6 am. You wake for your feeding and then go back asleep until 8ish. I feed you again and then we snuggle in bed and sleep till 9:30 or 10
Sounds/Words: You are starting to coo and make noises after you eat. The 30 minutes after a feeding are my favorite. You sit up on my legs and smile and make faces at me. You try to mimic what I'm doing and make noises when I do.
New discoveries/accomplishments:
-You have definitely discovered your feet. You spend lots of time staring at your feet as you kick them in different directions.
-You got your ears pierced at your 2 month appointment. It was very traumatizing for Mom so I didn't watch. You yelled at the top of your lungs like you have never yelled before, but once both ears were done, you calmed down in about 2 minutes. You will appreciate me getting your ears pierced at an early age because you won't remember the pain.
-You also got your first round of vaccines at your 2 month appointment. You took them like a champ and  did not let them bother you at all afterwards. No fever, just a little tired after the Doctor.
New Friends I've made: We went to the neighborhood pool this month and met Matthew Ishee one of mom's co-worker friends.
Places you went/Adventures: We went to the pool a lot this month and tried out your new float. We also went to Krista Gartley's Engagement Party. We went down to the Mason's love shack and went on the jet ski and cooked out. We also went to Savannah with daddy and stayed with Jessica and Gregg. Morgan and Andy came to see you too. We went out to eat and walked around downtown Savannah.

Happy even after getting her ears pierced!

 Band-aid from shots today :(

Delainey - 1 , Mommy- 0

We have been blessed with a pretty good sleeper. Delainey usually gets a bath around 9 pm and eats then she hangs out with her Daddy until her next feeding at midnight. After the midnight feeding, she sleeps till 5 or 6 am, wakes to eat and goes back to bed till 8:30 or 9. Sometimes we get real lucky and she sleeps till 10.  She has been doing this for several weeks now so I figured it may be time to teach her to sleep through the entire night. So off I went to google to read about the Ferber (Cry it out) method. It made sense so I thought why not give it a try for a few days. (David also liked this method of sleep training. I'm not a horrible mom who wants her kid to cry all night long while she is starving to death. He was on board too.)

So last night we did our normal bath routine but after the 9:15 pm feeding, we put her down for bed. She did great and was asleep within minutes for several hours. Instead of going to bed too while she slept, I had to stay up and watch The Bachelorette so we didn't end up going to bed until 1 am. D was still sound asleep; I couldn't believe how easy this was. That was until 3 am when she started crying. I took her out of her crib and fed her and put her right back in bed. She fell back asleep and I went back to my room. That lasted all of 5 minutes until the crying began. I waited 5 minutes then went in to give her the paci and left. 5 minutes later the crying continued. This time I waited 10 minutes before I went in there. This pattern continued till about 4:30 am. At that point I was so tired of going back and forth, I found a pillow and a snuggie and laid on the floor of her room. The pattern continued; she was wide awake and not going back to bed. Finally at 5:30, I gave up and let D win. I took her out of the crib, fed her again, and then rocked her till she went back to bed. She cried 30 minutes later, so her Dad went and grabbed her and let her snuggle in bed with him till our 7 am wake up call.

Moral of the story, Delainey won that one last night and mom is pretty tired running on 3 hours of sleep. We actually just got home from our 2 month check up and I asked the doctor when she should start sleeping through the night. She said she weighs too little to be able to hold enough food in her tummy to last past 5 straight hours. So we will put the Ferber method on hold till she gets bigger. Does anyone else have any good tips to get her to sleep through the night? Or should I just be happy with what we are doing because it really isn't too bad?

I will post shortly on how her 2 month check up went with some pics!

Weekend in Savannah

We just got home a few hours ago from Savannah. I am such a neat freak whenever I get home from a trip I immediately unpack everything and do a load of laundry. I just can't handle clutter all over my house. HAHA. Anyways we had a great time in Savannah this weekend. Yesterday, we got up early and arrived to Savannah around 11 am to our friend Gregg's house. We hung out a little bit then went to lunch on Tybee Island at a restaurant  called the Tybee Social Club. It reminded me a lot of the Keys (very beachy with touristy shops). The other couple coming in town met us at lunch. We enjoyed lunch and drinks on the deck and just caught up. (Delainey was a champ as usual and everyone was loving the hooter hider!)

After lunch we hung out at Gregg's and the girls sat on the porch and caught up while the boys hung out inside and drank some beers. It was so great just to have some girl time like the old days.

Then we went to downtown Savannah to hit up a few bars to have some drinks and walk around. We ended up eating dinner in the City Market and hanging out outside listening to some live music. Savannah isn't very kid friendly after 10 pm so we ended up coming home around 11.

The handsome boys

Delainey's stroller fan was a huge hit. I highly recommend them if you live anywhere in the south. There is a considerable difference in how much cooler she stays with it on.

The girls

Today we got up and had lunch at one of the oldest restaurants in Savannah called the Crystal Beer Parlor. The burgers and desserts were delicious. After lunch we headed home.

Overall it was a great one night getaway especially because we got to hang out with some of our favorite couples! We will definitely be frequenting Savannah more often.

9 weeks

Tuesday, July 3rd marked Delainey's 2 month old birthday! Our 2 month doctor's appointment isn't until next Tuesday so we are going to wait to do our 2 month update until after the appointment so we have more information to write.
Yesterday she turned 9 weeks old and we snapped a few pictures of her. She is getting such a personality and starting to move a lot. Taking pictures of her is getting tougher each week! :)

Today we are just laying low and I am packing for a little overnight trip to Savannah tomorrow. One of my very best friends from high school (Jessica) dates a guy who lives there so we are staying with them. It's only 2 1/2 hours away so a one night trip is no big deal. Another one of my best friends (Morgan) and roommate all through college is coming down from Atlanta with her boyfriend. The 3 of us used to get into some trouble back in college so I can't wait for us to all be together again! :) I will post some pictures on Sunday when we get back! Have a great Weekend

Happy 4th of July & Birthday to my Dad!

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July yesterday. Tuesday night the family went down to the World Golf Village to watch fireworks and hang out. Delainey had to see her first fireworks and they stopped doing them at the beach on the actual 4th of July. Here's a picture of D and her Aunt Kelli.

Then on Wednesday, David and I went to ride bikes down at the beach with all of our friends. (Grammy watched Delainey for us for the day) It was a great time. Anyone who has never seen the beach on 4th of July, it is quite the spectacle. There are probably over 5,000 people all riding their bikes going from party to party. We had a great time with our friends!

Today is my dad's birthday so all the kids are cooking dinner for him tonight. I will have to report back on how some of the recipes go. My sister is making the pasta salad from Skinnytaste and my cousin is doing the Skinnytaste bang bang shirmp. I am making a strawberry trifle, but it is not so skinny!:) Happy Birthday dad! You are the best dad/grandpa in the world! We love you!

Lazy Sunday & Monday

Sunday was such a relaxing day which was much needed after the past few busy days. We went to church and lunch and then just hung out at the house. The hubby washed the cars and worked in the garage all day while Delainey and I caught up on our recorded shows. (All 3 from Bravo of course!) How cute was her dress she wore to church. If you haven't heard of Smocked Auctions on Facebook, you should look it up ASAP. It is by far the cheapest I have found smocked dresses and rompers. What do you guys think about the bow? I like it but my husband thinks it is WAY too big and argues all day with me about taking it off of her.

Today my sister and I went to go see Magic Mike.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! I was soo disappointed. Channing Tatum is probably my favorite actors of all time (maybe tied with Zac Efron) I know I'm a 15 year old girl haha. This was the first movie he has starred in that I hated. The story line sucked it was more about drugs than a love story (which I really thought it was going to be based on the trailer). And of course every dance scene was shown in the previews so it wasn't like we were seeing anything new. And can we talk about how creepy Matthew McConaughey was in it. One of my friends warned me about it, but I had to see for myself. I should have just taken her word for it. Anyways Delainey is sporting her red, white, and blue all week in honor of 4th of July. Of course I forgot to take a pic today. But here is one from bath time in her bunny towel! I just love her! :)
