For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you already know what happened this past weekend. Here is a recap for those of you who don't. Back track to about 3 weeks ago when I am driving to the hospital to bring my friend dinner. I was listening to the christian radio station and they were doing a giveaway for free tickets to Rock the Universe, a christian concert at Universal Studios that happens once a year. (Emily and I literally talking about going every year, but never follow through). So I figured what the heck why not try to be caller number 9 and win some tickets. Well darned if I didn't get disconnected twice and on my 3rd try it just kept ringing and ringing. I thought to myself Oh my gosh I think I might have just won! You bet I did! I won 4 tickets to Rock the Universe, 4 tickets to Islands of Adventure, and a $25 to M Shack restaurant! Woohoo! I called Emily immediately and said listen to the radio! I won we are going to Rock the Universe! She was excited, but I could tell something wasn't right. That's when she broke the news to me that for an early 30th bday present she bought us tickets to Night of Joy (the same type of concert at Magic Kingdom just with different artists) for that same weekend and we were going Friday night. She also got us a hotel and arranged who was watching Delainey. I felt so bad! Of course I ruin every surprise! In the end it worked out perfect. Instead of 1 night we got to do a whole weekend!
On Friday night we drove down, and went to Night of Joy at Disney. We saw Matthew West, Chris Tomlin, and my fave of the night Hillsong United. We also got to do a few rides which got us out of the rain for a little bit. It was a lot of fun, but a late night. We got back to the hotel around 1:30 am and we were exhausted.
Friday night we stayed at the Pop Century and we were in the 50s themed building. Disney does a great job of decorating making you feel like you really are in that era.
Saturday, we took advantage of 2 of my free passes to Islands of Adventure to see the semi new Harry Potter land. We did a few rides, drank butterbear, bought a Harry t-shirt and headed home for a nap before another long night ahead.
That night we showered up to head to Rock the Universe and a huge storm came. So instead of battling that we went out to dinner at a restaurant called Yard House which was awesome and watched some football. We headed to Universal around 8:30 and made it just in time to see Toby Mac who is really the only one we cared to see that night. He was awesome! I felt like I was at a Justin Beiber concert with all the lights and smoke and dancing. Definitely a good entertainer. We walked over to the brand new Harry Potter area called Diagon Alley, which was awesome! I truly felt like I was in the movie! Universal had much more wild teenagers than Disney so we didn't stay too long. Most rides had at least a 45-1 hour wait so we said forget it and headed back around midnight.
Sunday we shopped at the Mall of Millennia and Ikea and then headed home. We had a great time and I guess it wasn't all bad that I ruined the surprise! :)
